Bosingwa will be the focus of attention for supporters of Chelsea FC during
UEFA EURO 2008. The pacy 25-year-old right-back agreed a €20.5m transfer to
the London club in May having just completed a hat-trick of Portuguese
championship wins with FC Porto.
‧Joined reigning Portuguese champions Boavista FC from SC Freamunde in 2001;
played UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup football in two seasons at the
Bessa Stadium before transfer to Porto.
‧Fringe player in Jose Mourinho's winning 2003/04 UEFA Champions League
squad; did not play in either semi-final or final.
‧Developed into a top-class full-back under first Co Adriaanse and then
Jesualdo Ferreira, winning hat-trick of Portuguese Liga titles.
‧A former Under-21 and Olympics international, he won first senior cap in
UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier away to Belgium (2-1); started four qualifiers in
autumn 2007 including decider at home to Finland (0-0).
