Ricardo has been Portugal's goalkeeper throughout coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's
six-year tenure producing penalty shoot-out heroics to help his side into the
latter stages of the last two major international tournaments.
‧Started out at Boavista FC, overcoming challenge of Cameroonian William
Andem to become club's No1 in 2000/01 Portuguese title-winning season,
conceding just 16 goals in 28 matches.
‧Appeared set to keep goal for Portugal at 2002 FIFA World Cup but replaced
by fit-again veteran Vitor Baia in Korea Republic.
‧First choice for UEFA EURO 2004 on home soil; played all six games, saving
and scoring decisive penalties in quarter-final shoot-out win over England.
‧Won 50th cap in opening game of 2006 World Cup finals and conceded only two
goals before Portugal's semi-final elimination; saved three penalties in
another quarter-final win against England.
‧UEFA Cup semi-finalist with Boavista in 2003 and finalist with Sporting
Clube de Portugal two years later – ever present in both campaigns.
‧Won Portuguese Cup final on farewell appearance for Sporting (1-0 versus CF
Os Belenenses) before joining Real Betis Balompie in 2007.

Ricardo had more game time in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying than any other
player appearing at the finals – 1260 minutes in total.
