A prominent member of the FC Porto side that ran away with the 2007/08
Portuguese Liga championship, Ricardo Quaresma's sumptuous talent is made for
the grandest stage. The young winger's abundant array of tricks should be
enjoyed by neutrals as well as partisans at UEFA EURO 2008.
A budding talent at youth level, he was a UEFA European Under-17 champion
with Portugal in 2000 but missed the 2004 UEFA European U21 Championship and
Athens Olympics through injury.
Controversially left out of Portugal's 2006 FIFA World Cup squad; played in
UEFA European U21 finals on home soil instead.
Portuguese domestic double winner in debut season with Sporting Clube de
Portugal (2001/02) under Romanian coach Ladislau Boloni.
Billed as 'new Luis Figo' but early move to FC Barcelona prompted quick
return, where he featured in Porto's post-Mourinho renaissance, winning
another league/cup double in 2005/06.
Two more Liga titles under Jesualdo Ferreira in 2006/07 and 2007/08 to
complete title hat-trick.
Did you know?
Quaresma was undefeated in his first 18 full internationals, his first loss
coming in the February 2008 friendly against Italy in Zurich (1-3). As a
consolation, he scored Portugal's goal.
