Nathalie Tauziat, how are you? Fine. I’m happy to be at the Open Gaz de France. Besides the French Open, it might be the greatest female tennis event. Then I am glad to be here and to comment for Paris Premiere and to see tennis women I played two years ago. So, how are things going at the TV channel? Everything’s going fine. Since Wednesday, we have been commenting as many matched as we could. I commented tennis women I played and others that I do not know at all such as Parra or Sprem, who I discovered six month ago. That’s interesting to see tennis developing, to see new faces. I enjoy commenting I think that players can know what the athlete is feeling in important moments, and it helps the spectators to better understand the game. More generally speaking, what have been doing since you’re retired? I live like anybody else, quietly at home. I have some family problems which take me time to recover. I have a training centre in Capbreton with the man who was my coach, Regis de Camaret. We are still close to each other and we work together for this training centre. I do some TV and I comment matches. Last year, I work for France 2 for the French Open. And then, we set up a project of the female tennis management in the leagues with the federation and the DTN. It has been testing this year. Currently, I am working for two leagues, for the Mi-Pyrenees and the Lorraine leagues. It takes me much time but I really enjoy it as I can see girl from 9 to 15, or bit older who are very talented, who have been a bit left aside but who are really talented. One day, will we see you as a coach on the circuit? I don’t know. I will not answer you yes or no because if I say yes, you will say “well, she is going to train somebody” and if I say no, you will say “she is no longer interested by tennis” I do not know, we’ll see. Coming back on the circuit seems quite difficult to me to travel all the weeks as I used to do. But why not doing it some weeks a year? Maybe not 36 weeks a year but why not 20. At the moment I’m busy so I do not think about it. What are your feelings when you come back here? Nice feelings. When you won this tournament, you have the feeling that you belong to it. I am glad to be here, to remain in the tennis area. I’m glad to see players I played and that I liked and who are still there and who win. I really enjoy it. Can you tell us something about your win in 2000? It’s one of the best moments of my career. At the beginning of the week I didn’t expect that.I remember, I just came back from Tokyo so I played in very difficult conditions. It was very jet-lagged. I only played only singles and I started the tournament on Thursday. Everything went well. I remembered a great match against Justine Henin at the first round. And today, I’m proud to say that I defeated her, considering her path. And it might be thanks to that win that I won the Open Gaz de France. It’s your best memory with your final in Wimbledon… Yes. There’s also my Fed Cup win in 1997 even though I did not play the singles in the final, I only played doubles. It was an extraordinary team moment we lived all together all the year long. What was nice that year, it that all the team played. In the first round I played and Alexandra Fusai as well. In the final, Sandrine (Testud) and Mary (Pierce) played. They are the kind of moments you cannot forget and which help you in a career. What do you think about Tatiana Golovin? (Nathalie smiles.) It's the question that everybody is asking at the moment. I think that she a huge potential, a nice tennis. And most of all she has very strong mental qualities. When she is on the court, she is really in the match, she gives all the best. She is a warrior, and I think that it’s important to reach high-level tennis. She does not think too much, she does not hesitate, she gives all she has, and that’s important. What do you think about the 2004 tournament ? That’s a nice tournament. Unfortunately a lot of players retired, or are injured, so that’s a pity for the draw. I think that if Serena Williams and Amelie Mauresmo were here, it would have been a wonderful tournament. Unfortunately there were some walkovers and some injuries. There might be lessons to learn from that. I have heard a lot that the tennis women have troubles with the surface. We should see if we cannot change the surface to put another material. Nevertheless; I have nothing against Greenset which provides the surface. I played on it and it catches a lot, which leads to many problems as for the movements. The organization might improve this aspect, besides that, the tournament is perfect. It’s always well organized. The players are happy to play here in Paris According to Mary Pierce, the walkovers and retirements can be explained by the fact that players have played too much since the changes of WTA rules, what do you think about it? That’s funny because I was talking about that with Amelie Mauresmo this morning. The rules say that she has to play 13 tournaments besides the Grand Slams, which mean 17 tournaments a year. I would say that up to 20 tournament a year is okay. More than that, it seems to be more difficult, according to the game you have, if you use your physics… Personally, my techniques allowed me to very fluid and to have a very technical tennis. I could only played 24 or 25 tournaments a year and I have never been injured. I think that 17 tournaments a year is not too much and that the tennis women can easily play up to 20 tournaments. Who is the revelation of the 2004 staging? Tatiana Golovin. I think that she has her chances. And maybe Safina as well who has a very nice tennis, she is very talented and has very good physical conditions. I think that both of them can go far. The last question, can give us your prognostics for the end of the tournament ? (The interview was done at 12.50pm before the quarter finals). Today, I think that Clijsters will defeat Farina Elia. Puis…(she hesitates), well, I take a risky bet: Safina will defeat Schiavone. And, Pierce and Golovin will prevail. For the semi-finals, Clijsters will defeat Safina and Pierce will defeat Golovin. In the finals, I think that Clijsters will prevail in two sets as, today, she is the best in all the different parts of the game. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.70.206.23
