祝賀小日本～可以光明正大的退出亞冠了？ FIFA green lights J.League champs for CWC Feb 17, 2006 FootballAsia.com ZURICH 每 World football governing body FIFA have approved the participation of the J.League champions in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, increasing the field for the competition from six to seven teams. The decision was taken by the Club World Cup organizing committee at a meeting in Zurich on Thursday, ensuring that a home representative will play in the tournament formerly known as the FIFA Club World Championship in December. The 2005 competition featured only the club champions of FIFA’s six continental confederations. With J.League sides Yokohama F Marinos and Jubilo Iwata going out early in the AFC Champions League, Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad were left to fly the flag for Asia in the tournament. FIFA will only make a formal decision on the fixture schedule at an executive committee meeting in March but the indications are that the competition will now take place over 10 days instead of eight with the Japanese champions to meet the club champions of the Oceania Football Confederation in the opening match on Friday, December 8. The final will be played on Sunday, December 17. South American champions Sao Paulo of Brazil won the 2005 tournament after a 1-0 win over English side Liverpool in the final.
