(外電)Warriors Richardson, Murphy gone after this year?
<摘要>
According to sources, Fegan is selling Richardson as a franchise player,
which would mean at least a $10 million starting price on an escalating deal.
And Murphy is being compared to Carlos Boozer, who got a six-year,
$68 million contract from Utah over the summer.

Warriors Richardson, Murphy gone after this year?
Both players would be restricted free agents if they don't get extensions
By Dave Del Grande, STAFF WRITER
Thirteen players went through two Mike Montgomery-led workouts Tuesday,
wondering if this is the year the Golden State Warriors finally make
the playoffs.
Jason Richardson and Troy Murphy also practiced at UC San Diego in
La Jolla, but they had something entirely different on their minds.
They were wondering if this is their last year as a Warrior.
Golden State's two first-round picks in 2001 will play out the final year
of their Warriors contract this season unless either gets an extension
before the Oct. 31 deadline.
By league rule, 2001 first-round picks not signed to extensions by that
date automatically become restricted free agents at season's end, opening
the door for agent Dan Fegan -- yes, HIM again -- to explore other options
next summer.
Richardson, the Warriors' leading scorer last season at 18.7 points per
game, and Murphy, a double-double machine (37 in 79 games) when he was
healthy two years ago, are optimistic they'll get long-term commitments
from Chris Mullin by the end of the month.
"I'm hoping," said Murphy, who took the court Tuesday believing he was
100 percent cured of last year's foot and lung problems. "I want to be
here, and I think they want to have me here."
Neither Mullin nor Fegan would comment on the negotiations, the Warriors'
boss acknowledging only that talks had begun. Richardson admitted he
approached Mullin personally recently over concern with the current
state of the discussions.
"He told me he wanted to get it out of the way," Richardson said.
The problem with re-signing either is it would kill just about any hope
the Warriors entertain of being a major player in the free-agent market
next summer.
According to sources, Fegan is selling Richardson as a franchise player,
which would mean at least a $10 million starting price on an escalating deal.
And Murphy is being compared to Carlos Boozer, who got a six-year,
$68 million contract from Utah over the summer.
Signing either now would immediately count against the 2005-06 salary cap.
But by waiting until next summer to do the deals, the Warriors could add
a big-name free agent, then make long-term deals with their own guys.
If they haven't already trashed the team and signed elsewhere -- remember
Marc Jackson? -- that is.
Richardson claims getting the money now isn't about achieving a comfort
level. New deal or not, he expects Montgomery's more structured offensive
approach to produce his biggest numbers yet.
"I went through it last year ... have a good year, maybe get a good
contract," he said. "I just don't want to go through it again this year."
Murphy hopes the fact Mullin and his assistant, Rod Higgins, can relate with
the pressures unsettled contract situations can put on players will help the
deals get done.
"The guys up there (Mullin and Higgins), they know what it's like being a
player," he said. "I've been here three years. They know the kind of person
and kind of player I am.
"I'm optimistic. I really am. If the date comes and passes and nothing gets
done? I don't know how that'll be."
Well, it'll be like playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, who traditionally
have allowed their young talents to become restricted free agents after
their fourth seasons.
Sometimes they've been able to get them back -- kicking and screaming in
some cases. Other times, they've lost good players and gotten nothing in
return.
Mullin chose not to give Erick Dampier the big bucks over the summer.
By opening night, Warriors fans will know where he stands with Richardson
and Murphy
