Andy Murray made an impressive ATP Masters Series debut with a two-set
win over American Taylor Dent in the Cincinnati tournament.
The young Scot kept his composure to break back in both sets to win
tie-breaks comfortably, 7-4 and 7-1.
Murray will now face Marat Safin in the second round, his first encounter
with a top-five ranked player.
Victory sees Murray join compatriots Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski in the
second round.
The young Scot was more reserved than he had been at Wimbledon, and he
admitted he has made an effort to keep his cool on court.
Murray said: "I wanted to calm it down a bit, it was a little bit over
the top at Wimbledon but so was everything else around me.
"I knew this was going to be a difficult match and I didn't want to get
too pumped up because a couple of cheap points when your concentration
lapses and you can end up losing the set.
"It was a good win, a pretty solid match," added Murray.
Rusedski continued his good form with a 4-6 7-5 6-4 win over Dmitry
Tursunov.
Tursunov was the player who beat Tim Henman at Wimbledon, and the Russian
showed the same shot-making ability as he broke twice to take the first
set.
But Rusedski upped his game to break in game 11 of the second set and game
three of the third for victory.
