Rusty Henman goes out in Vienna
Tim Henman, playing in his first event since the US Open, crashed out of
the BA-CA Trophy in Vienna when he was beaten 6-7 7-6 6-1 by Radek Stepanek.
The British number one took the first set on a tie-break.
But, after both men claimed a break in the second set, the third seed
levelled the match in another tie-break.
Things went from bad to worse for the Brit after he won the first game of
the deciding set. The Czech did not lose another game to close out the set 6-1.
Henman, who won this tournament in 2000, was given a wild card to compete
in Vienna and beat qualifier Antony Dupuis 7-5 6-3 in the first round.
That win was Henman's first since he beat Chile's Nicolas Massu at the
Cincinnati Masters on 15 August.
Earlier on Wednesday, former French Open champion Gaston Gaudio of
Argentina lost to Austria's Jurgen Melzer 6-7 6-3 7-6 in the first round,
while top seed David Nalbandian, another Argentine, beat Frenchman Sebastien
Grosjean 6-4 6-7 6-3.
Joining Stepanek in the third round is fifth seed Tommy Robredo of Spain,
who beat Czech Ivo Minar 7-6 6-4.
In other first-round matches, Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic defeated Agustin
Calleri of Argentina 6-4 6-3, and Spaniard Carlos Moya beat Germany's Bjorn
Phau 7-5 6-4.
