Henman makes plan to revive form
Britain's Tim Henman has revealed a new plan to revive his form. The
former world number four's plan involves altering his tactical focus,
changing his training and becoming more selective about where he plays.
"I think I've found a way to go on but I'm not going to judge myself after a
week or a month," said the 31-year-old, who lost in the Qatar Open this week.
"But I will have to be so careful and specific with the work I do because of
the back problem."
Henman has just endured his worst season since arriving in the top flight
a decade ago, but believes he can engineer a revival during 2006 despite a
degenerative back condition.
"To those who are writing me off, I would say that I am not finished yet," he
added.
Henman began the year with a win on Monday against world number 16
Richard Gasquet, but lost 6-2 7-6 (7-5) on Wednesday to Tommy Haas.
The Briton is already putting his new three-way plan into action but
most evident to the public will be how Henman decides where and when he
plays - a policy practised by veteran star Andre Agassi.
From now on, Henman will take much shorter term decisions, based on the
need to top up the training throughout the year to keep the back protected.
"It's something he (Agassi) is a very good example of. He turns up ready to
play, and if he's not ready he doesn't play," Henman said. "That's what I may
have to do."
