Henman sinks to 43rd in rankings
Henman lost to Dmitry Tursunov in the first round in Melbourne
Tim Henman's first-round exit at the Australian Open has seen him drop
seven places in the world rankings to 43.
But despite falling to his lowest ranking since 1996, he remains
British number one ahead of Greg Rusedski (44) and Andy Murray, who has
risen to 60.
Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis rises from 54 to 27, while
2004 champion Marat Safin drops 50th.
In the women's rankings, Kim Clijsters has been confirmed as the new
number one, but Serena Williams fell to 39.
Williams' defence of her Australian Open title ended in the third round
, while Safin was unable to defend his crown because of a knee injury.
Clijsters is out for two months after picking up an ankle injury in
her semi-final in Melbourne.
Australian Lleyton Hewitt has lost his place in the world's top 10
after falling in the second round in Melbourne.
The new rankings also brought bad news for Britain's Elena Baltacha, who
has fallen 76 places to 198 and lost her British number one status to Anne
Keothavong.
