The 19-year-old Scot looked on course for an easy win but the former British number one battled back from 5-2 down to 6-5 in the second set. Henman, 31, who made a host of unforced errors, then squandered set point before Murray dominated the tiebreak. Murray will play Spain's Carlos Moya in the third round on Thursday. "It was tough," said Murray, who survived a three-set marathon against Henman in their first encounter in Basle in October. "I've not normally had problems with closing out matches. "When you're playing someone like Tim, who I've looked up to for the last 10 or 12 years, to be in a situation where you're serving for the match against him is quite difficult. "I know I have to learn to deal with it and I'm sure that will come with time." I don't think Tim returned too well at the start of the match Andy Murray Murray, the new British number one, broke his older rival in the fourth game of the first set but Henman hit back immediately in the fifth before Murray broke twice again as the out-of-sorts Henman surrendered the first set. The Englishman appeared to be biding his time before shaking hands in the second as he continued to misfire, only occasionally showing glimpses of the old Henman. Murray was 3-0 up and cruising before Henman finally put an end to the Scot's six-game winning streak. The renaissance was short-lived as Murray eased to 4-1 and then 5-2 as the finish line hove into view. Henman won four games in a row in the second set But Henman mustered all his experience to hold at 3-5 before breaking Murray to love. Sensing his hot-headed young opponent's frustration, Henman forced his way to 6-5 and had one eye on a third set as he buried his volley at set point into the net with the open court gaping before him. Murray was relieved to get to deuce and ushered in a tiebreak at the second attempt as Henman netted again. "I was beginning to change the momentum," said Henman. "Andy had dominated the early part of the match and gotten himself into a good position. "At that stage I was going to throw caution to the wind and just go with my shots. I actually played some good tennis then." In the tie-break, Murray won four points in a row for 6-2 and after Henman saved the first match point, the Scot clinched his first appearance in a Masters Series third round. "I don't think Tim returned too well at the start of the match," added Murray. "He made a lot of mistakes in the first set and in the second set he started to serve a little bit better in the middle part. "When I served for it at 5-3 I missed all four first serves, but I felt that he played some good points, including one unbelievable chip return up the line. "It was good to come through, especially when I got broken at 5-5, and then obviously to come back and break at 6-5 and play a pretty solid tie-break." -- ╔════════╦════════╦════════╦════════╗ Name:Sugiuchi,47Name:Saitoh,66 Name:Arakaki,18 Name:Wada,21 Heights:175cm Heights:192cm Heights:189cm Heights:178cm Weights:81kg Weights:100kg Weights:80kg Weights:75kg Glove:Rawlings Glove:Adidas Glove:Mizuno Glove:Nike ╚════════╩════════╩════════╩════════╝ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.167.176.245
