A. Murray Interview - Day 6 Saturday, 1 July, 2006 http://tinyurl.com/2bqezh Q. How satisfied are you? ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I'm obviously pretty chuffed. I played a great match today. I wasn't expecting to win, although I did feel I had a slight chance if I returned well. You know, for me to save as many breakpoints as I did, you know, I came up with some really big shots on the breakpoints, especially in the first set and at the start of the second. If Andy had taken one of them, you know, it could have been a completely different match. But I hung in pretty well. It wasn't like I was hitting big serves to get me out of trouble on the breakpoints. I was hitting, you know there were long rallies and I came up with some big shots. Obviously really happy to come through, and especially to win in three sets is pretty special for me. Q. Surprised you could keep your cool so well in a tough situation? ANDY MURRAY: No, I've done it before. You know, I think it's easy when you're playing like that to keep your cool. You know, I get really annoyed when I'm playing badly because I'm a perfectionist. I know I can play matches like that. And when I'm playing badly is when I get upset. But, you know, if I had lost the third set playing like that, it wouldn't have, you know, dented my confidence because I was playing so well. So it wasn't I wasn't surprised I kept my cool well. Q. How does it feel to be the only British competitor left in the tournament? ANDY MURRAY: There's still James Auckland, Jamie Delgado in the doubles. James actually broke into the top hundred for the first time in doubles, which is, you know, big for him. You know, I think he's still in the mix as well. So, uhm, I'm the only one in singles. Q. I was thinking of Tim falling by the wayside, Greg. Singles, second week, fourth round? ANDY MURRAY: I had the same thing last year as well. This year is a bit different. There's more expectation. You know, to get into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time is great. I'm used to being around the locker room when there's only kind of 16 people left. It's much quieter. Yeah, I'm obviously looking forward to playing. Q. What do you think of Roddick's performance today? ANDY MURRAY: Uhm, I thought he served well, uhm, throughout most of the match. You know, he came up with some big aces on breakpoints. It was Love 30 on a lot of his service games and he served well. He maybe made a few more mistakes off his forehand and, you know, than he normally does. But still he came up with some big forehands on big points as well, like on the first matchpoint, he had a deep forehand and hit it right onto the line. You know, I thought it was a better quality match than in San Jose so, you know, I don't know if he thinks the same, but I thought it was a better match than I played in San Jose. Q. Would you expect a tougher match with Baghdatis, who just won right now? ANDY MURRAY: Well, I mean, if I play like that, you know, I think I got a good chance of winning. You know, he's got a bit more experience than me having made final of Australian Open this year and he's in the Top 20 just now. I mean, it wasn't an easy match today at all. It was really, really tough, the whole way through. Against Andy, when, you know, you play against someone who serves like that, you play a couple of bad service games, like I nearly did, I got a break down in the third and managed to break right back, but you don't get too many opportunities on his serve. So today's match was really tough. And if he converted some of his breakpoints, you know, it could have been a completely different match. Q. You were rallying extraordinarily well. ANDY MURRAY: Yeah. I mean, that's normally best part of my game, my groundstrokes and my return. You know, normally pretty steady. You know, there were some really good rallies. I was maybe a bit defensive in some of the rallies. On the big points I could have taken a few more chances. But when I was behind on my service games is when I really went for it, and especially off my forehand. I hit a lot of big winners. And I was expecting to rally well against him. I did in San Jose. I have against all the top players in the world. You know, I did it very well today. Q. You seemed to have a clear game plan, right from the word "go," you were playing deep into his backhand a lot. ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, I mean, everybody knows that his backhand is his weaker shot. He's got a huge forehand and hits a lot of winners off it. You need to try to get it into his backhand as soon as possible. If not, you're going to do a lot of running. Yeah, I mean, I came into the net quite a few times on his backhand, which he maybe wasn't expecting. But, yeah, I mean, I thought my game plan was pretty good today. Q. How does it feel to have all the crowd behind you like that cheering you on? ANDY MURRAY: Yeah, it was great. This is obviously pretty special. You don't get crowds as big as this cheering you on at any of the other tournaments throughout the year. You know, you can play in the States, but it's normally going to be 50/50. The crowds in here, you know, everybody well, there was obviously maybe 10% of the people in there wanted Roddick to win, but the majority were obviously cheering me on. You know, I got a feel for it last year. It's really special. It gives you makes you raise your game a little bit higher. Q. How well do you think the grass suits your game, and how much more comfortable are you on it now than you were, say, last year? ANDY MURRAY: I mean, I think I can play well on grass, like I did today. I still think that the American hard court's my favorite surface and I can play my best on that because I can get into more return games here. If someone serves really well, I get a bit frustrated because I can't get enough returns in play. But I think the grass, obviously making third round last year, and obviously making fourth round at least this year and beating a guy who's made final two times, is obviously a surface that I can play well on. Q. How far do you think you can go if you produce tennis like that? ANDY MURRAY: That's the thing about tennis. I can play like that one day and I can show up on Monday and play badly. If I play like that, uhm, you know, I think I got a good chance of winning my next match. You know, I think Hewitt's the guy or the highest seed in my section left, and he's obviously won Wimbledon, two Grand Slams. I wouldn't really expect to get past the quarterfinals if I had to play him. Q. Did you have any clue about anything else going on around the site today, anything else going on in the world of sports while you were playing the match? ANDY MURRAY: I didn't know while I was playing actually, I knew England were nil nil when I went on court and Rooney had been sent off. I had been watching it before I went on. In the end, I spoke to a couple of the people when I was signing autographs, they said they lost on penalties. I picked them to win on penalties. A bit disappointed. Q. The whole country will be thinking about you now, more focus will be on you because the country is not thinking about World Cup anymore? First week you were under the radar a little bit? ANDY MURRAY: Obviously, them losing is going to change things a little bit. I think there might be a few more journalists but I don't think the expectation will be any higher. I think I'll almost get more support now than I would have done. If England had played badly in the World Cup and lost in the group stages, it might have been a bit more pressure on the guys in the first week, you know, if I'd lost in the first round I'm sure, and England had lost in the first round and Tim had played badly, it would have been a lot of negative press. But I think now I'm gonna have more support than I did, you know, maybe a couple days ago. -- ╔════════╦════════╦════════╦════════╗ Name:Sugiuchi 47Name:Saitoh 66Name:Arakaki 18Name:Wada 21 Heights:175cm Heights:192cm Heights:189cm Heights:179cm Weights:81kg Weights:96kg Weights:82kg Weights:77kg Glove:Rawlings Glove:Adidas Glove:Mizuno Glove:Nike ╚════════╩════════╩════════╩════════╝ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.167.183.230
