[新聞] Victory over Federer gives Murray added self-belief

LONDON (Reuters) - Andy Murray believes victory over world number one Roger
Federer in Dubai on Monday will give him the platform to become a genuine
contender for the biggest prizes in tennis.

For the past two years, Murray and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic have been touted
as the players most likely to challenge the Federer-Rafael Nadal duopoly at
the top of men’s tennis.

Born five days apart in May 1987, Djokovic started 2007 ranked 16th in the
world while his British rival kept pace in 17th place.

But since then, they have traveled down distinctly different paths.

Djokovic burst off the blocks to reach the semi-finals or better at three of

Murray has proved to be more of a long distance runner and has made steady

would be quick to point out that his own development has been hampered by
back and wrist injuries. It kept him off the tour for almost four months in

the majors, beating Federer en route to his victory at Melbourne Park, Murray
has never reached a grand slam quarter-final.
