Murray to skip Davis Cup relegation playoff tie

LONDON (AP)—Andy Murray will not play in Britain’s Davis Cup relegation
playoff against Turkey next month.
The 23-year-old said he has informed British team captain Leon Smith of his
decision, while adding that he is not retiring from the competition.
A loss to Turkey would send Britain into the competition’s bottom tier for
the first time in the country’s history.
England lost in March to Lithuania in Europe/Africa Zone Group II, a result
that ended John Lloyd’s captaincy.
World No. 4 Murray has said the Turkey tie, to be played July 9-11 in
Eastbourne, “could potentially be won 5-0 without me playing.”
British No. 2 Alex Bogdanovic has also ruled himself out following a dispute
with British tennis authorities.
