[外電] Hanging with ... James Posey
Hanging with ... James Posey
October 11, 2004
This is election year, so a vote for me is a vote for: "the people. I'm the
people's choice because I'm blue collar."
The CD in my car stereo is: "a mix CD. It's a bunch of hip hop."
The NBA needs: "nothing. They've got everything."
BETWEEN THE LINES
James Posey did not participate in the open scrimmage because of a sprained
left foot. Posey wore a therapeutic boot after learning that results of an MRI
exam were negative.
With Posey out, Battier practices with the first team and Dahntay Jones moves
up to work with the second group. A similar situation is taking place with the
shooting guards.
Because Bonzi Wells is still hobbled, rookie Andre Emmett is getting more of
an opportunity in practice.
The open practice Sunday at FedExForum drew a modest but enthusiastic crowd
that enjoyed interaction with the players and coach Hubie Brown's educational
commentary. The fans also were treated to a no-so-grand finale.
Humorous may be the best way to describe the entertainment provided by
second-year players Jones and Troy Bell, and rookies Emmett and Antonio Burks.
Each sang his ala mater's fight song.
Jones performed first, and to a mixture of cheers and jeers as though he stood
at The Apollo. Burks, with former Tiger Lorenzen Wright cheering, drew the
loudest ovation with his rendition of the Tigers' fight song.
HIGH FLIER
Emmett, Jason Williams and Earl Watson continued their solid training camps
with a strong showing for the fans. Although Williams played just six minutes,
he shot the ball well. Watson and Emmett played with poise and confidence
throughout the scrimmage. Plus, Mike Miller displayed a deft shooting tough,
making 5-of-6 shots.
COACH'S CORNER
Sunday was actually the first time that the Grizzlies worked out on the main
court in FedExForum. Since training camp began, the Griz have been confined to
their practice court located off the arena's main lobby.
"We were really looking forward to today," Brown said. "It was god to get on
the court to get a feeling for the shadows and rims and depth perception. All
of that takes a while to get used to with your shooting."
The Griz will use the main court again today, Wednesday and Friday because of
exhibition games Thursday (Cleveland) and Saturday (Indiana).
"By the end of the week," Brown said, "things should be good."
INJURY UPDATE
Posey (sprained left foot), Burks (left hip flexor), Wells (strained left
hamstring) and Ryan Humphrey (left foot sprain) did not participate in the open
practice.
HE SAID IT
"It's just two points," -- Williams, while watching a few high-flying teammates
fire up the crowd with thunderous dunks during a warm-up drill.
FAST FACT
The Grizzlies are no longer conducting two-a-day sessions. The team's schedule
now calls for a two-hour practice on non-game days. Memphis plays at Orlando on
Tuesday.
