Grizzlies Open FedExForum in Grand Style
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 14 (Ticker) -- Lorenzen Wright and Dahntay Jones scored 15
points apiece to lead a balanced attack as the Memphis Grizzlies posted a
102-94 preseason victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wright scored nine points in the first quarter, including six straight to give
the Grizzlies an early 19-13 edge. He added six more during a surge early in
the third period that left Memphis on top, 59-52.
Jones, who played in just 20 games as a rookie last season, made 5-of-7 shots,
including both his 3-pointers. He scored eight points in the third quarter and
seven more in the fourth, when the Grizzlies outscored the Cavaliers 29-19.
Earl Watson chipped in 11 points off the bench for Memphis, which got at least
two points from 14 players. Rookies Andre Emmett and Antonio Burks combined for
13.
Grizzlies center Jake Tsakalidis had five points and five rebounds against the
team he nearly joined in the offseason. The four-year veteran from Greece
signed an offer sheet with Cleveland before Memphis matched it, bringing back
the 7-2, 290-pounder.
LeBron James, the 2004 Rookie of the Year, scored 16 of his 25 points in the
third quarter, helping the Cavaliers gain a 75-73 lead.
Drew Gooden had 13 points and 12 rebounds and first-round pick Luke Jackson
added eight points off the bench for Cleveland, which dropped its preseason
opener.
