Grizzlies Growl From the Get-Go
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 23 (Ticker) -- Pau Gasol led five players in double digits
with 17 points as the Memphis Grizzlies rolled to a 104-72 preseason victory
over the Atlanta Hawks.
Gasol, who had 10 points in the first half, made 7-of-10 shots overall and
pulled down seven rebounds.
Bonzi Wells nearly posted a triple-double for the Grizzlies, scoring 14 points
and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with his seven assists.
Point guard Jason Williams chipped in 12 points and eight assists; in all,
Memphis recorded 28 assists to more than offset 16 turnovers.
Shane Battier, who had four points and five rebounds, did not play in the
second half for the Grizzlies due to back tightness.
Antoine Walker had a game-high 20 points for Atlanta, despite missing 9-of-13
free-throw attempts.
Center Jason Collier added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, who
absorbed their fifth straight loss after beating the Orlando Magic in their
preseason opener.
The Grizzlies, who outscored Atlanta in the paint by a 60-26 margin, improved
to 5-1.
