Memphis: The choice came down to Mike Conley Jr. and Joakim Noah, and the first
big move of the Chris Wallace/Marc Iavaroni era was ultimately the right one.
Although Noah's size and mobility are intriguing and perfect for the open court
, the Grizzlies really needed a game-changing point to ensure their attack gets
off the ground. Having witnessed Steve Nash the past few seasons, Iavaroni
knows exactly how vital the right floor general is in a run-and-gun system.
Conley's speed guarantees that they'll have a game-altering weapon. They missed
out on Oden and Durant, but wound up with a potential franchise player all the
same. Grade: A

4. MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES. OK, this is where it gets REALLY interesting. Because
rumors had a lot of other teams interested in this pick, so who knows where
the player who gets selected here ends up. Gasol could still be on the move
as well. They need, well, pretty much everything. THE PICK: Michael Conley.
Seems a bit for young MC, if you ask me. Dude’s undersized, and he’s going
to a team where he isn’t gonna have much to work with, especially if Gasol
gets traded. Hold on, Jay Bilas is having a word orgasm. Can’t focus.
The distance between Conley’s nose and his mustache is quite far. He’s also
got the mic in entirely the wrong place—nice echoes.

Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizz needed a rebounder. They better hope they got the next Tony Parker
when they drafted Mike Conley, Jr. They should have grabbed a big man and let
Kyle Lowry have a crack at running this team.

They would have loved to nab Horford to provide some beef to go with Pau Gasol,
but they will gladly settle for this smooth, smart point guard in the Tony
Parker mold. He should fit well in new coach Marc Iavaroni's system.
