[外電] Eighty-two All-Stars? Believe it.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Here’s something amazing. Do you know how many players
are All-Stars this season? Would you believe 82? It’s true.
Each team will have 34 active players, so that’s 68. But 14 other players
are recognized as All-Stars but are inactive — some because of injuries, and
some because they pitched on Sunday.
The number swelled over the weekend, when Jason Heyward, Justin Morneau and
Jose Reyes dropped out because of injuries. And C.C. Sabathia and Trevor
Cahill became ineligible by starting for their teams on Sunday.
Two of the replacements — Billy Wagner and Jered Weaver — are also
inactive, Weaver because he is pitching Sunday and Wagner because of a sore
ankle. So the new guys are Paul Konerko (for Morneau), Rafael Furcal (for
Reyes), Andrew Bailey (for Cahill), Justin Verlander (for Sabathia) and
Hong-Chih Kuo (for Heyward).
Got all that?
Of all the additions, I’m most intrigued by Kuo, who has pretty much had a
perfect first half for the Dodgers. Left-handed hitters are 0 for 30 off Kuo
this season. So if National League Manager Charlie Manuel wants to match up
against a lefty at a key point in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, he will have the
ultimate weapon in his bullpen.
Anyway, 82 All-Stars. It doesn’t bother me — the more the merrier — but
that’s a staggering number. And yet somehow Mat Latos, Jaime Garcia and
Brennan Boesch will watch from home.
