We were all hoping that Daniela would pull off another upset in the second round on Wednesday, against eighth seed Anna Smashnova- Pistolesi, the world #20. Despite the exciting name, Smashnova-Pistolesi is a solid, unspectacular counter-hitter, who has built up her ranking with a year of consistent results rather than big upsets. I saw her play Saori Obata at Eastbourne 2003... and was bored stiff at the way they were both looping the ball back and forth from behind the baseline. ASP is very beatable by a spectacular attacking player like Daniela, so I'm pretty disappointed that Daniela missed this opportunity. Clay would certainly have to be the one surface that favours ASP over Daniela, especially with this being only Daniela's second claycourt match of the year. With ASP serving first, games went with serve until 2-3 in the first set. Then Daniela got broken for 2-4. She broke back and levelled up at 4-4. ASP held for 5-4, forcing Daniela to serve to stay in the set. Daniela had two game-points, but then ASP had three set-points and converted the third to win the first set 6-4. In the second set, Daniela recovered from 0-1 0/40 to hold for 1-1. She missed a break-point for 2-1, and was broken herself for 1-3. Similarly to the first set, she broke back immediately and held for 3-3. ASP held then broke, and thus served for the match at 6-4 5-3. After a long, tough game in which ASP had three match-points, Daniela broke back for 4-5. She held for 5-5, and ASP for 6-5. ASP broke to win the match 6-4 7-5. :-( Daniela's winner:UE ratio was 41:63, compared with 13:23 for ASP, who apparently resorted to moonball-tactics to frustrate Daniela into making errors. Daniela tried to counter this by coming to the net more, winning 13 points from 15 approaches. Daniela broke 3 times from 8 break-points, whereas ASP broke 5 times from 19 break-points - so the scoreline could well have been much worse. Not a really bad tournament for Daniela overall, considering it's her first on clay this year, but I did think she had a better-than- evens chance of an upset against Smashnova-Pistolesi, and an intriguing potential quarter-final against the flairsome Vera Zvonareva. ================================================================ 老毛病.. 非受迫性失誤暴高..... 不過值得嘉許一下....
