7 January 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dominik, not the way you want to reach the final, but obviously good to be there (Hrbaty) Of course it counts. Nobody asks how you got in there. We had chances to make it easier. We didn’t make it, but I’m happy. I’m happy with the way I played in all three singles and now I think we are a good team, we have a chance against Argentina and I hope we take with us the diamond ball. What about the match up with Guillermo? I think it is 2-2 head to head. You have a fairly similar style. (Hrbaty) No I think it is 3-1. The web site must be wrong. (Hrbaty) 3-1 because I lost to him once in a challenger and three times I have won but he retired in the match. So it is kind of like… Has he retired every time? (Hrbaty) When I was winning he retired so…But I don’t think he is going to retire tomorrow. Maybe he had some injuries. Maybe it was just a matter of luck because it doesn’t usually happen, that he plays four times with a guy and out of that three times he retires. He is a great player. I have nothing to lose. I can only make a great result and we have practiced four or five times here together. His game is… I like his game because it is not that fast. He doesn't hit as many winners. He is not a big server so I think it is going to be a lot of rallies which I enjoy. I am looking forward to this match. Daniela, you would be looking forward to making up for last year’s final? (Hantuchova) Yes for sure. This time it is so much different. This time I feel like this time the final is really deserved from my side. I helped Dominik to get there too. I think we played well in all our matches in singles and it is just really nice to be in the final again. You must be please with the way the week has worked out for you. (Hantuchova) Yes for sure. I was really pleased with my last two singles. Even the first one I think was a really high standard match and I just have to keep going like that. I’m really enjoying every day here and you can’t ask for better preparation than this. Before the Australian Open, having played four matches and maybe a few more, in the next tournament and everything feels good. How important will this final be treated in back home in Slovakia? (Hantuchocva) It is always big when we play for our country. It is nice to be playing in the final for Slovakia and I am really enjoying playing with Dominik because he always gets behind the country. He is always so pumped up when he is playing for the country. Especially, he has proved that so many times in Davis Cup. It is something very special for us. Daniela how much more confident are you about the whole Australian summer this year as opposed to when you played here 12 months ago? (Hantuchova) I can’t even compare them. I mean I feel like I am totally different. Not only as a player but a person too. I am just enjoying every things o much more and I think I have learnt a lot in the last 12 months. I feel much more confident. I’m really pleased with the way I have been hitting the ball. As I said every thing seems to be in place now. What has changed to make that transformation? (Hantuchova) Well I have worked really hard in the last couple of months. I had a great preparation training wise too in December. When you know you have done all the hard work and all that stuff that gives you confidence you can really feel good on the court and that is what I did. I know it is there so now it is up to me to bring that all into my match. Do you think you understand the pressure better? (Hantuchova) Yes for sure. Now I think I am more prepared to handle them better and more aware of what it takes to get where I want to and then obviously what it takes to stay there. I think I have matured in the last 12 months and especially mentally I think I am much tougher than I used to be. You are going to play doubles with Martina Navratilova. How much do you learn from her. (Hantuchova) It is going to be such a great experience for me. Not only for my doubles game but for my singles game as well. That is what I look forward to. To learn as much as I can from her. For me it is a big honour to be playing with her. Have you played Gisela before? (Hantuchova) No I have never played her. How do you think your type of style will match up against her? (Hantuchova) I think if I keep going the way that I have been playing the last few matches. I think I should be fine. I just have to make sure I do the right things, and still enjoy myself out there. It is nice to be in the final and hopefully I will give Dominik a nice lead. (Hrbaty) She doesn’t have to worry. If she loses I will win everything. She doesn’t have to be worried. (Hantuchova) Good that takes a little bit of pressure off me. Are you enjoying playing the mixed doubles with Dominik? (Hantuchova) Yeah I think it is fun. Especially with the way we played yesterday, the first set was great and if we can do the same tomorrow. I think that would be nice. I think Dominik is a great player and I think we have a lot of fun together. You got to number 14. Have you got goals to maybe get in the top 10 or something this year? (Hrbaty) I have got top 50. I always at the beginning of the year I like to make a goal of top 50 by the end of the year because basically through the year that gives you the chance to play all the Masters’ series and you have to start from scratch in the new year. You go from the zero and once I reach this one then I put some higher goals like top 40, top 30, top 20 like I did last year. I almost ended up top 10 but I didn’t make it so we go from the beginning again. With the results last year it must have given you a lot of confidence? (Hrbaty) Oh course. It is always very important to have a good start of the year. Even now in Hopman Cup I already had a good start so we will see. Hopefully then through the year I can keep up the form. It is very important. Usually if I start well in Australia, often I will have a good season. Hopefully is it going to be the same this year. Daniela do you think you can make it back into the top 10 by the end of the year? (Hantuchova) As I said before I am not trying to set up any goals or where I want to be at the end of the year. I just want to play every match the best way I can and I will see what happens this year.
