Hantuchova into last eight

Second seed and world number 17 Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia has won
through to the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland on Wednesday with
a 6-3 6-1 win over American Jill Craybas.
The lanky Hantuchova dominated from the opening game on centre court where she
broke Craybas serve and raced through the first set with a comfortable 6-3 win.
The veteran Craybas was unable to produce the standard of play that saw her
upset Ashley Harkleroad on Tuesday in a three set thriller, failing to execute
her baseline strokes with as much velocity and precision as she did on the
outer court a day earlier.
Hantuchova looked a great deal better on Wednesday than she did in her first
performance on Tuesday, where she beat Yulia Beygelzimer of the Ukraine.
"Yeah it was much better - especially after the way I played yesterday," the
one-time world number five said.
"I felt like I was in control of the match right from the beginning."
The Auckland weather threatened to disrupt the morning session but after an
early downpour before the scheduled start time, it held off enough for the
first match on centre court.
"I got really lucky [with the rain] and I was really happy that I was first
on because then it makes the day a little shorter but I was expecting to be
here for a couple of hours."
Despite the strong winds gusting through the ASB Tennis Centre Hantuchovas
serve remained solid as she held serve throughout the match for the second
time in two days - meaning it has been over four sets since her serve was
last broken.
"I was really happy with that even though it has been windy. I felt like I was
in control of that."
The second seed could now face reigning champion Katarina Srebotnik of
Slovenia in the quarterfinals should the fifth seed beat Israeli qualifier
Tzipora Obziler later on Wednesday.
"I have played her [Srebotnik] at least once for sure maybe a couple more times.
She is a good player, I remember her from juniors and she has a good game."
