Hantuchova recovers from slow start to beat Obata
MELBOURNE, Jan 16 (Reuters)
Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova came from a set down to beat Japan's Saori Obata
3-6 6-3 6-0 in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.
Hantuchova, who withdrew from last week's Sydney International tournament due
to illness, seemed out of sorts early against the small left hander, making
22 unforced errors and winning less than 50 percent of her first serve points.
Seventeenth seed Hantuchova recovered in the second set, however, dropping her
error rate and converting more first serves to even the match.
While both players' accuracy dropped in the third set, Hantuchova was able to
seize control of the match by converting three of the six break points she had
to run out an easy winner.
