Daniela Hantuchova's coach Angel Gimenez discusses the Slovakian's excellent end to the season and high hopes for 2008. Eurosport - Mon, 12 Nov 15:13:00 2007 Gimenez, a former coach of Gabriela Sabatini, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Alberto Costa, has been coaching Hantuchova for two years now and has spoken of the improvements the 24-year-old has made and what she is capable of in future seasons. Q: What has changed in Daniela's game since you started coaching her? Gimenez: She has made a big step forward which is clear to see based on her results. Nowadays she can equally fight with the world's top players. The most important thing about Daniela is that she has a big talent. In the past she was using mainly her instinct. We have tried to bring a system into her play and combine it with her natural advantages. In tennis there must be a co-operation of many aspect of play to make it work well. When everything is working well together, only then it will become clear how high a tennis player can reach. With Daniela we are still on the way. Q: Which period have you reached? Gimenez: The good thing is that Daniela can still get better and better. Our main effort will be for Daniela to show consistent performances all year long. Q: How do you want to reach that goal? Gimenez: It can be reached only by hard training daily. It is important that she understands the things we do. I don't think she would be looking for a different style of play, she just needs to show stable performances. She is a big professional and she is not bothered to spend five or six hours on the court. We have been doing everything to get her as high as possible. Q: What is her biggest weakness? Gimenez: She has very good strokes. She has very skilful hands, she can do wonders with the ball. Sometimes though she has problems to catch the game rhythm. Either she has a slow start to a game and gets into the right shape when the game is almost over, or vice versa. She must learn to be fully concentrated all match long no matter who is playing against her, no matter what the scoreboard says or the conditions are. Q: Compared to other players, she looks a little bit slower in movement. Gimenez: She is faster than it seems on the court. I see at trainings how able she is. She has a good movement potential. Q: Isn't it a pity that Hantuchova has joined the Sanchez-Casal Academy (where Gimenez coaches) only two years ago? Gimenez: That's life. People are searching for something, they even don't know for what, all their lives and suddenly when they find what they had searched for, they know it is the right thing for them. I don't think it is too late for Daniela, why she is only 24. It is important that she wants to get better. Q: Do you discuss other topics than just tennis with her? Gimenez: Daniela is a very intelligent young lady. She has a good sense of what is happening all around the world, she has a good sense of humour as well. We often chat about events that are happening in the world. Q: Her career-high was when she was 5th in the WTA rankings. Can she go higher? Gimenez: Why not? She has proved this year that she has the potential to do so. Everybody has a time when he or she realizes things and grows up. Daniela has already reached this. Q: What is the target for next season? Gimenez: I don't want to speak about numbers or where she will be in the rankings. I still focus only on what is necessary to improve. If we manage to make her performances stable, then she will win more matches, which also means that she will have more points and will be higher in the rankings. -- http://blog.pixnet.net/a881028 我的心情 我的生活 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.72.61.141
