[新聞] Daniela demolishes top seed Wozniacki
Top seed Caroline Wozniacki sensationally crashed out of the French Open
6-1, 6-3 at the hands of Daniela Hantuchova on Friday afternoon.
The world no.1 was sent packing by her Slovakian opponent who barely put
a foot wrong during the entire match.
Hantuchova took charge from the start thanks to an aggressive and
remarkably consistent baseline game, while Wozniacki struggled to get
a touch on the balls that were whizzing past her at spectacular speed.
Clad in a fuchsia-pink and burnt orange ensemble, the tall no.28 seed
rattled through the first set in just 27 minutes, firing off 15 winners
while the Dane was unable to muster a single one.
The only inkling of trouble came during the second set with Hantuchova
serving at 4-1. At that moment, the Monaco-based player began holding back
and stopped employing the aggressive tactics that had helped her steamroller
her way through the first set. The opportunity was enough for Wozniacki
to get back in the match and win the next two games, but Hantuchova stood
her ground and as soon as she reverted to her attacking game, the 20-year-old
was powerless to stop her.
Talking about her opponent, Wozniacki said: "She played very well.
She played very, very well today, better than me, for sure. She knew what
she was going to go out there and do. She was just too good.
I just need to get back on the court and practice, and come back stronger."
She added: "It's definitely not the surface that I like the most,
but I was still hoping that it was going to be better than this.
But then again Daniela is a good opponent. She played very well today,
and if she keeps playing like this, she's tough to beat."
In defeating Wozniacki, the 28-year-old has equalled her best result here.
She now faces 2009 French Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova, who saw off
up-and-coming Canadian teenager Rebecca Marino 6-0, 6-4 in 49 minutes earlier
in the day.
