Notes: Kobe talk of the Hawks The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 01/24/06 ‧ OUT OF THIS WORLD: Kobe Bryant was the talk of the Hawks' locker room the day after his historic 81 points against Toronto. The Hawks said that the achievement in itself is stunning, especially considering Bryant's 60 percent (28-for-46) shooting from the floor. "With Kobe, he takes shots that look bad, but they're not bad shots for him," Hawks co-captain Joe Johnson said. "He was on fire. On fire." Hawks coach Mike Woodson said Bryant had one of "those nights." "It was just a special, special night," Woodson said. "And I'm sure Kobe felt that way. Because 81 points is, well, 81 points, and I don't care how you cut it up. It's amazing." The next step for Bryant is chasing the NBA record of 100 points, held by Wilt Chamberlain. "I don't know if somebody's going to get 100," Woodson said. "It's hard for me to believe it could happen." Hawks point guard Tyronn Lue played with Bryant on championship teams with the Lakers. He thinks Bryant can get whatever he wants. "He'll get [100] before he's done," Lue said. The Pacers, in town for Monday night's game against the Hawks, were just as impressed. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said the 45 points Bryant put on his team this season don't seem so bad now. "It's beyond words," Carlisle said. "It's something none of us thought we would ever see from the guard position. With dominant 'bigs,' maybe, but for a two guard to do that in this era when defenses can be geared around one player, it's out of this world. ‧ TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE: Hawks radio analyst Dennis Scott knows a thing or two about breaking NBA scoring records. He once owned the record for 3-pointers in a game with 11. Bryant topped that last season with 12. "The most points I ever scored was 65 in the Urban Coalition summer league in D.C.," said Scott, a former Georgia Tech star. "I had something like 16 3-pointers, and I'm telling you, I was dead tired when it was over.
