[偷] Trade Al Now...
Trade Al Now...

I've been looking at the recent upheaval around the league
which is setting the table for whatever deal BK might make.
We have NYK having a roster bulging with expensive and
inefficiant players and a GM and coach trying very hard to
fix it. You have BOS trying to shuffle the deck in order to
get a winning product on the court. You have GS with too many
big contracts. DEN is shopping for any pieces to help them in
the playoff run. ORL is having issues winning and has thought
about moving Francis. There is simply a host of possibilties.
The one problem is the lack of compatibility between all those
teams and what ATL really needs. Harrington would be the perfect
piece for any team wanting to bolster their lineup for the
playoffs, but no one is willing to give ATL want he is worth.
It might also be a matter of they are not capable of giving
what he's worth because that would take away from other aspects
of their team that make them competitive.
We basically have two options: wait for a trade that gives us
what Al's really worth or work out a S&T in the offseason. The
real question is what is Al's value. My opinion is he's an
excellent starting SF/PF who is one of the better low post
scorers in the league and can shoot from outside making him
very valuable offensively. He's not fantastic where defense
or rebounding is concerned, but I think come playoff time he'd
bring the complete package. I think he would be ideal to come
off the bench and dominate anyone's alternates. The other aspect
of his value is his contract which carries with it Early Bird
rights. That means whatever team owns the rights to him can sign
him to a much larger/longer contract than any other team. That
means he is a perfect candidate for a S&T where an auction could
be held to see who is willing to give up the most in a trade for
the rights to sign him to the larger contract. There are few
players with his youth and talent (not to mention experience)
who will be better than him this offseason, so he is going to
get a lot of attention.
Now, from BK's perspective, I don't think he really wants to
resign him for the amount of money that he will be offered. He
might try to get him to sign for a discount, but I think Al is
smart enough to not take it. That leaves him with the original
two options. If he trades Al, he absolutely must get more value
for him than with a S&T. The reason is not only would the team
he is traded to get the benefit of his services for the remainder
of the season and playoffs, but they will receive significant
cap room and potentially quite a nice return on a S&T. This is
why he has set the bar so high for anyone wanting to trade for
him. (IMO, Watson and Nene for Al is a joke, especially
considering all the teams making major changes.) BK probably
realizes that because of this higher price tag now most teams
are not going to want to give up so much at this time. That
leaves only the S&T option. I think we could get a very nice
prize with all the changes going on around the league. Some
teams are going to seriously start rethinking the makeup of
their teams and try to find the best building blocks they can
to fix things. BK will basically get to pick and choose the
right deal for his team, all the while threatening to resign
Al because we will have the cap to do it. I think he is playing
it smart, allowing teams to think about what it would take to
get Al now, but all the while looking towards an ideal situation
for him to improve his team with a top draft pick and a huge
card to play that could put the finishing touches on his
rebuilding project (years early if you ask me).
