Indianapolis - Pleased with the development of suspended guard Salim
Stoudamire, the Hawks released veteran guard Tony Delk on Friday.
Delk's status was determined a day after the NBA trading deadline which
will allow him to seek a deal with a playoff contender.
"Hopefully it will be a good deal for him," Hawks general manager
Billy Knight said.
Stoudamire, who missed Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers,
was suspended for two games without pay for conduct detrimental
to the team. He'll also miss Saturday's game against Milwaukee.
Stoudamire is averaging 9.6 points in 19.9 minutes a night. His
problems come when he's pulled from games. The Hawks are hoping
the suspension will led to an attitude adjustment.
"We've got Salim Stoudamire," Knight said. "Salim plays the same
position so we are going to play Salim Stoudamire. It's
unfortunate for Tony to be in that situation. But at this time,
that's the hand we were dealt and we're going to wish him the best."
Delk, a 10-year veteran from the University of Kentucky, played
in one regular-season game for the Hawks on Feb. 12 at Sacramento.
He scored two points in seven minutes.
The Hawks originally obtained Delk from the Dallas Mavericks,
along with Antoine Walker, in exchange for Jason Terry, Alan
Henderson and a second-round draft pick on August 4, 2004.
STOP THE BLEEDING: Entering Friday's game, the Hawks had dropped
nine of their last 10 games at Conseco Fieldhouse.
GOOD HEALTH: The Hawks, through the all-star break, led the
league in least games missed due to injury with just 17. The
good health has allowed coach Mike Woodson to use the same
starting lineup in each of the last 32 games.
