With Salim Stoudamire finishing his two-game suspension and Tony Delk
waived Friday, the Hawks had nine players in uniform again when they
faced Milwaukee on Saturday night. The Hawks have Donta Smith in the
NBA Developmental League, but the second-year player is sidelined by
a knee injury. Coach Mike Woodson said he and general manager Billy
Knight will sit down soon to discuss bringing in a player to fill out
the roster. Stoudamire, suspended without pay for conduct detrimental
to the team, will return for Monday's game against New Jersey.
‧ TAKING ADVANTAGE: Zaza Pachulia, 21, played limited minutes with
Milwaukee last season but has made a major contribution as the Hawks'
starting center. He went into Saturday's game averaging 11.2 points
and 8.1 rebounds in 31 minutes, with 3.5 offensive rebounds per game.
Woodson called Pachulia's rebound and kick out for Joe Johnson's tying
3-pointer the "key play" in Friday night's 117-112 overtime victory
at Indiana.
‧ INOPPORTUNE SLUMP: Milwaukee, with no one injured for the first time
since late November, hoped to get off to a fast start after the All-Star
break. Instead, the Bucks lost their first three games for a four-game
losing streak that dropped them below .500 for the first time this season.
Milwaukee has struggled since a 17-11 start, putting their playoff hopes
in jeopardy. Going into the game against the Hawks, the Bucks had dropped
17 of 27 and had to play Saturday night without Mo Williams (ankle).
‧ BACK IN ATLANTA: This was former Hawks coach Terry Stotts' second game
back at Philips Arena with Milwaukee, the Bucks having won 118-102 on Jan.
30. Stotts was fired following the 2003-04 season and replaced by Woodson.
In Stotts' two seasons, the Hawks went 65-101.
‧ HEAVY WORKLOAD: It was the fourth game in five days for the Hawks and
Bucks. After playing no games at Philips for two weeks, the Hawks are in
a stretch of six of nine at home.
