Somewhere Coach Woodson is Saying “I Told You So”

On the very day that Sekou Smith released an article concerning
Coach Woodson coming public about the Hawks getting no calls from
the refs, Atlanta loses in double overtime to the worst team in
basketball thanks to New York getting 58 trips to the free-throw
line. Once again, the opposing team made more free-throws than
the Hawks even attempted. Three Atlanta players fouled out,
including Zaza Pachulia, who was having a career-night, and Salim
Stoudamire, a great shooter the Hawks rely on late in the game.
Four other players had at least four fouls in the game, while no
one on New York fouled out and only four players had at least
four fouls.
Attempting to get back to the game and focus on what actually
turned out to be a decent contest, both Joe Johnson and Zaza
Pachulia had over 50 minutes on the floor in the loss. Johnson
had 36 points thanks to six threes, nine rebounds, and six assists,
Pachulia had 26 points, nine boards, and four assists, and Al
Harrington chipped in 28 points in his 43 ? minutes on the floor.
The Hawks shot 44% from the field and 76% from the free-throw
line, but shot 15 less freebies than the Knicks. For New York,
neither Stephon Marbury nor Steve Francis scored in double digits,
despite a combined 53 minutes of play. They were led by Jamal
Crawford’s 21 off the bench.
The third loss in a row for Atlanta drops them to 20-42 on the
year, as they continue to fail to gain ground on Orlando, while
the win pushes New York up to 18-45 on the year as they attempt
to prove that they are better than Charlotte and not the worst
team in the league. The Hawks return home on Friday to face the
Utah Jazz, in another game against one of the bottom teams in the
NBA.
