Walking wounded By SEKOU SMITH The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 04/04/06 Nobody has worked the past few weeks as hard as the Hawks' training and medical staffs. Between injuries and illness, the Hawks have had anywhere from seven to nine players available per night in their last 10 games. Joe Johnson (flu symptoms), Zaza Pachulia (flu), Josh Childress (ankle), Salim Stoudamire (elbow) and Marvin Williams were all absent from the floor during Tuesday morning's shootaround practice at Continental Airlines Arena. Johnson played Tuesday night against the Nets, while Childress sat out and Pachulia was held out of his second straight game. Stoudamire is out for the remainder of the season. Williams missed the game to attend his grandfather's funeral. NEW JERSEY DRIVE: Since March 12 the Nets have rattled off 12 straight victories, including wins over four of the top five teams in the NBA. The most impressive of that stretch had to be their 79-74 win over the Pistons in Detroit March 26. The Nets' closest game during this stretch was a 91-88 win over the Hawks last Friday (they also defeated the Lakers 92-89 on March 17). Hawks coach Mike Woodson insists the Nets can cause problems in the Eastern Conference playoffs, for whatever team or teams they face. "They're trying to defend and that's the key to winning playoff games ...," Woodson said." BLOCK PARTY: Less than two full years into his NBA career, Hawks forward Josh Smith has developed into one of the league's most fearsome shot blockers. Sure, he's just 6 feet 9 and he didn't enter the league with a reputation for blocking shots. But Smith's athleticism and uncanny timing have led him to a tie for ninth on the Hawks' career list with 320 blocks entering Tuesday night's game. "It's funny really when I think about it," said Smith, who ranks sixth in the league this season in blocks (2.5 per game). "I never concentrated on that part of my game until I got to the NBA. In high school I always relied on dunks and offensive plays to get the crowd hype and to energize my team." 資料來源 http://www.ajc.com/hawks/content/sports/hawks/stories/0405hawksnotes.html -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.121.61.117
