HARRINGTON OUT: The Hawks' reinforcements showed up in time for
Wednesday's game against Minnesota at Philips Arena. But they had
to play without second-leading scorer and co-captain Al Harrington,
who sat out the game with a strained chest muscle. "It's been
bothering me for a while now but it's worse now," Harrington said
before the game. "I don't want to be out there and not be able to
go full strength." The Hawks did get Zaza Pachulia (flu) and Josh
Childress (ankle) back for Wednesday's game. Rookie forward Marvin
Williams also returned after missing Tuesday's loss in New Jersey
to attend a funeral. He took Harrington's place in the starting
lineup against the Timberwolves.
WATCHING AND WAITING: When the Hawks made their late run in New
Jersey Tuesday night, they did so with a lineup of Donta Smith,
Anthony Grundy, Esteban Batista, Josh Smith and Joe Johnson on
the floor. Seeing Johnson and Josh Smith out there should have
surprised no one. But the rest of the crew hasn't played
extensively for the Hawks this season. But that could change as
the season winds down, the Hawks have just eight games left after
Wednesday. "We had guys out, so coach [Mike Woodson] told us
bench guys to be ready to go," said Donta Smith, who scored a
career-high 13 points in the loss to the Nets. "I guess you could
say we had a lot of guys who were watching and waiting for an
opportunity to get out there and try and do whatever we could to
help."
PUSH THE PACE: The Timberwolves have endured their fair share of
struggles this season, a second straight non-playoff season and
a 12 straight road losses going into Wednesday night. But they're
doing it at breakneck pace under first year coach Dwane Casey,
who has his team pushing the ball since acquiring fleet-footed
point guard Marcus Banks from Boston in a trade earlier this
season. The Hawks didn't get a breather early as Banks pushed the
action from end to end and had seven assists to stoke his team's
early 13-point first quarter lead. "He as fast as anybody in the
league for 94 feet, "said Hawks reserve point guard Tyronn Lue.
