Hawks swingman Josh Childress was going through the shoot-around
Friday morning when the word came down. A right cross that barely
grazed Andres Nocioni's head late in Wednesday night's loss to
the Chicago Bulls would cost him two games — Friday's game
against Charlotte and tonight's game in Milwaukee. When Childress
was told of the suspension, he leaned his head back and rolled
his eyes. He did not speak to the media before leaving the
building. "It's just unbelievable," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said
of the additional penalty. Childress was ejected from the game
with 2:33 to play. "That's all I can say," Woodson continued.
"Unbelievable." That's more than any of his players would say
about it, remembering the $35,000 in fines Woodson and Josh Smith
received last month for public criticism of game officials after
a loss in Milwaukee. "I've got no comment," veteran Hawks point
guard Tyronn Lue said when asked if the suspension was just. "No
comment."
‧ MISUNDERSTOOD: Al Harrington has been asked about it countless
times this season, and each time his answer's been the same.
"Obviously, I want to be here first," said Harrington, who will
be one of the league's most pursued free agents this summer.
"I've been here for two years and seen us go from basically the
ground up to where we are now. So my first priority is to be here.
But I'm looking at all my options." That last part is what has
led to rampant speculation, the latest in the Chicago newspapers
after Wednesday's game, that Harrington's focus has been
somewhere else other than the Hawks. "I wasn't fully quoted,"
Harrington said of the praise he heaped upon the Bulls. "They
left out the first words out of my mouth, which is that in a
perfect world I get to play here. But the reality is that I
have to consider every option as a free-agent-to-be."
GOOD FRIDAY: The Hawks announced Friday night's game as a sellout; it must have been a late-arriving crowd. The attendance figure received a boost from Noche Latina, a postgame concert featuring Pilar Montenegro and Adassa.
