Heat missing its sizzle

Fans wanting to see the Miami Heat at full strength Tuesday night
will have to tune in to the NBA playoffs. Not only did the Heat
come to town without their head coach — Pat Riley was in New
York by the side of his 96-year-old mother — they took the floor
at Philips Arena without their most famous players as well.
Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade, Gary Payton and Alonzo Mourning
were all in street clothes for the game, continuing a season-long
trend for the team that is supposed to challenge Detroit for
Eastern Conference supremacy. The Heat has had their top eight
players healthy and available just 27 times this season. They're
an impressive 21-6 in those games and a pedestrian 31-22 otherwise.
"They're still a dangerous team," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said.
"They're as deep a team as there is in our league. How many other
teams in this league could win that many games without their top
eight guys available that often?"
‧ HAWKS BACK ON TRACK: Woodson's team will finish the season
with everyone but Salim Stoudamire (out for the season with a
sprained elbow) available for tonight's season finale in Cleveland.
Co-captain Al Harrington missed three straight games with a
bruised hand and sore chest muscle before returning for Tuesday
night's home finale against the Heat. Josh Childress also returned
after serving a two-game suspension for throwing a punch at Andres
Nocioni during last Wednesday's loss to Chicago.
COLLIER FAMILY ATTENDS: Jason Collier's wife, daughter, parents
and in-laws were in attendance for Tuesday night's game to present
Childress with the inaugural Jason Collier Memorial Trophy. The
award will be presented annually to the individual who best
exemplifies the characteristics Collier displayed off the court
as a community
