US OPEN 2005: In Tune and On Song!

Justine made her first appearance in the 2005 US Open on Arthur Ashe Stadium
Tuesday afternoon. Simple, yet refreshingly snazzy all court play was
showcased to a delighted audience by the Belgian. The winning scoreline was
6-3 6-0 in 58 minutes over Zuzana Ondraskova.
Justine looked a tad sluggish in the opening games. Ondraskova held serve,
and broke the Roland Garros champion very easily. There was a slight breeze
of 8-12 mph winds on Arthur Ashe stadium, but that's fairly common due to the
funnel effect of the vertical design of world's biggest tennis stadium with a
seating capacity up to 23,000. Just when things looked to be a bit off for
Justine, she fired off an eye-catching whiplash snapping one-handed backhand
while jumping into the air. The crowd woke up, applauded, and approved. There
were some nice rallies; but Czech seemed to be pushed out of her comfort zone
on the baseline with the pace of offensive returns by the Belgian. Despite,
Ondraskova holding her own, she was unable to stop Justine from being very in
tune with shot accuracy, and on fine song with serves. 6-3 in 37 minutes.
Justine starts the second set off where she ended in the first. Ondraskova in
a wise strategical move tried to divert the game away from the baseline, but
to no avail. Justine's net play became more elaborate, and debonair. Delicate
shots, finesse shots, teasing whimsical net drop shots were on display to the
late afternoon New York audience. The Belgian did not lose any offensive shot
making moments in the second set, neither was there a loss of rhythm in the
second set. Justine flashed across the net, and hit volleys winning 80% of
her net approaches. The final stat was 20 out of 25 net play accomplished.
Justine simply keeps adding new dimensions, colors, and flavours to her game.
Coach Carlos must be proud. 6-0 in 21 minutes.
Final Score 6-3 6-0 in 58 minutes.
Justine's second round opponent will be Maria Sanchez Lorenzo of Spain. She's
defeated the young spunky American Angela Haynes earlier on Tuesday 7-5 7-6.
