Maria Sanchez Lorenzo is one of the few on tour that utilizes the two-hander on both wings. She was also one of the lucky losers who entered the main draw due to the withdraws of two top players. Justine opened the game on serve, and was broken quickly. The Spaniard held, and the Belgian's form rose. The rallies were deep; but Justine broke the game wide open at 3-2 with outstanding all court play, and percise shots landing to the corners. Sanchez Lorenzo was a step behind the rallies as Justine lunged forward ending each point with total command at the net. It was exhibition style tennis by Justine, and the crowd could only marvel at the dexterity. The first set was 6-3 in 35 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Justine sailed out to a dominant lead. She felt so relaxed, that a bit of serve and volley practice was done to head into 3-1. From here on things took an unusual turn around the corner in the match. As fortune came her way, the Spaniard took full advantage of the opportunity; putting up resistence on Justine's unfocused patchy match play. At 4-1 Sanchez Lorenzo stood up, and held tough to give Justine a bit of a battle in the latter stages. The perfectionist that she is, Justine corrected her errors, and without much struggle held her serve only to arrive at a much more deviant Sanchez Lorenzo. She broke back, and fought off the Henin-Hardenne first succession of matchpoints. There were sloppy match play from both players, but only one would head out safely. Still determined to sail to the finish line Justine's desire, and will finally holds out longer than Sanchez Lorenzo to win a rather tense second set 6-4. Final Score 6-3 6-4 in 1hr 20min Each match for Justine is a work in progress to build, and learn from. The essential goal is to win no matter how much struggle there is. The best players find it from within to persevere on rough days, and dazzle on perfect ones. Justine will next play Korea's Yoon Joeng Cho on Saturday in the 3rd round.
