This match was Justine and Virginie's third meeting, Belgium versus France, a francophone mini sporting rivalry, but the real questions were focused on Justine today. How would the 2004 champion play from the previous erratic showing in round 2? The Belgian displayed a sharper image, and pressured the Frenchwoman from the first set to the very end. Razzano tried to save 5 match points on serve in the final game of set number two, but Justine took what belongs to her. The surface, and court conditions on Vodafone were heating up prior to the start of Justine's match. The second match of the day would be under a closed roof for safety, and health conditions for the players. Razzano started out the match on serve, and looked to be playing well, but a very different Henin-Hardenne turned up today than the previous version on Wednesday. Every aspect of Justine's game was a sharper, brighter model than the previous round. It was 6-4 in 41 minutes with 2 aces, and only one lost service game. Justine applied pressure on Razzano from the opening game. She was on a mission, and Razzano had to claw for every single point, yet to no avail. Justine broke her opponent in three games, and held all of her own serves. Again, the Belgian fired up 2 aces. Razzano fought tooth and nail in the final game to hold off Justine's 5 match points in the longest game of the second set.
