There were 12 victories. Justine did not win the final prize, but
her journey over the three week period gave us the full gamut of
emotions from happiness, awe, inspiration, anxiety, sadness, and
hope. Justine, we thank you!
PREMIERE VICTORY - True victories
Wednesday January 11, 2006 Justine was welcomed by the kids of
Westmead Hospital in Sydney. Life victories beyond the court,
quiet battles won outside of the public eye are real, and more
sublime than any tennis match. It's a reminder, and a part of
Justine's life that she holds true as a promise to herself, and
in memory to her mother. It's happiness shared between a champion
of tennis, and young champions who fight day after day.
SECOND VICTORY - Departure to Australia
Tuesday January 3 There were doubts until the very day of departure
for Justine. Was she truly ready to finish matches after being out
of action since October 2005. Was her hamstring injury healed? The
mood is optimistic, refreshing, happy for Justine, and supporters.
She's back.
THIRD VICTORY - Justine beats Martina Hingis
Monday January 9 The Medibank International tournament in Sydney.
The absolute moment for tennis purists, and the most surprising
first round match-up in years. Two of the current generation's most
gifted players clashed. Martina Hingis, on a comeback, and hungry
for tennis wins again, and Justine. Electric charisma from both
players, Justine in her first win since the US Open 3rd round back
in September 2005 defeated Martina 6-3 6-3.
FOURTH VICTORY - To play without pain.
Justine proclaimed this is the first time in 8-9 months that she
had played a match without her hamstring injury. It's a fantastic
moment for Justine unleashed on court in full flight once more without
worry or anxiety.
