After some time away Justine, and I found a good cruising speed to our communication, and spirit. I believe that we missed competition of a high level. When not in competition, we have trouble finding our criterion, especially in comparison to the other tour players. Our preparation was super, prior to the first match played in Sydney, and immediately we could measure ourselves against the others. This was translated by Justine on court with assurance, and maturity. In particular, this allowed her to manage the first match win over Hingis; it's especially remarkable within the current results of Hingis. She only lost against players of quality (except her defeat at the first tournament), and Justine beat her in the first round in two sets by playing a good match. I won't say a very good match, because it was Justine's first after four months off, but completely to my expectations, and the preparation work she's accomplished. Things continued really well in Sydney, we saw the joy of winning over the competition. Against Schiavone (a match which Justine did not play very well), she tried to use her mental strength. This was against an in-form Schiavone, it should be underlined. It was a tournament that was, apart from the victory, extremely positive, and a learning experience for years to come. We arrived at Melbourne, with one title, and having to attempt another. Fortunately, we took our time to enjoy the victory, and to rest. We had one day of preparation, and it went very well for her. There was much less pressure on Justine than in the past, that was a first! She managed her matches better, more consistency was seen. As soon as she found the right tactics, and good form in her groundstrokes, she didn't give up any areas. The only exception was the second match. The extenuating circumstance with the shoulder problem made her play poorly. She tried to be in control playing through the pain, tried too hard, there was a loss of confidence, many double faults, and uncertainties. Luckily, she again played well, and managed to please herself, and ourselves until the end. It was a very beautiful surprise, compared to some of her combative early round matches, to see such a good state of form, especially with no questions raised on her level of game! Against Sharapova, and against Davenport, we saw a very mobile Justine. Despite lack of volleys to the net, she was very aggressive in her groundstrokes; it was very good! Unfortunately, the tournament finished in a way that you would never imagined it to end. Justine could not defend her chances as she would have liked. Mauresmo, that day, was better than Justine, in better health, and won the match. But, I believe that there are positives. Perhaps, so much that even if there was a final of a grand slam which she really could not dispute, nor which she could not gain, there are enormous positives for the future. The only thing that I can say is that, if Justine's health continues evolving forward, that it continues to stay in that direction, we'll be very content in the future, and very imperturbable too. All that she showed us, with more drive, more maturity, Justine will have beautiful grand slams to present, and make us feel alive. I will have a rendzevous with you after Roland Garros, and Wimbledon. We shall see whether she can still raise a trophy, and have a victory.
