On a windy, chilly day three at the French Open, Justine began her Court
Philippe Chatrier revisit with a brutal display of elite tennis over
Estonia's Maret Ani 6-3 6-0. It was slashing, hard hitting, cutting edge
tennis, that looked light years away from old school baseline clay courters.
The world's greatest 1-handed backhand will play her next match on Thursday
against Craybas or Yakimova.
"I always like to have the upper hand in rallies. I feel alot of emotions
here, and the public gives me so much in return, they supply me with extra
motivation. I have so many great memories here. I'm very happy, and
especially hope to continue in this manner"- Justine after the match
It was Estonian Maret Ani's first Roland Garros, but her solid rallies, and
good movement on court wasn't enough against Justine's brutal, yet diamond
tennis today. The Belgian super heroine raced ahead cutting through the windy
on court conditions to a quick 4-0. Nerves subsided, Ani gained composure,
and a few games. Unfortunately, the Estonian's double faults subtracted all
the hard work gained in breaking Justine's serve. A nice showcase of Belgian
variety with forehands, 1-handed backhands, drop shots, and even serve plus
volleys were too much for Ani to handle. The 2x RG champion won the first set
6-3.
Justine started the second set breaking the Estonian, and continued her
highly offensive non-traditional clay court style with flair. Despite the
tricky conditions, the center court audience were able to witness a high end
early round match from the Belgian tennis heroine. Ani was never able to get
into the match as Justine rejoiced on her first match point for 6-0.
Final score: 6-3 6-0 in 1 hour
