Justine defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 6-4 to win her third Roland Garros
trophy, and fifth grand slam tournament. It's an amazing achievement at age
24 she's truly proven to be the best female player on clay of her generation.
Today's RG final displayed Justine finest champion qualities - the skill to
bring the sweetest shots on crucial points, the ability to outwit, outplay,
and to do it with effortless ease. One notable surprise tactical move from
Justine was to play Kuznetsova in a more defense oriented style away from the
free flowing 1-handed backhands that most certainly have been targeted by the
Russian.
As with all the previous matches with Svetlana Kuznetsova the exchanges were
heavy, and hard in the early stages of the first set. The key this time was
the tense ninth game. When it looked as if things could carry on toward a
tiebreaker, Justine brought out her best all court game to whip out an ace,
and rally with assertive winners. The debonair Belgian took the first set 6-4.
Kuznetsova played outstanding tennis in the start of the second set. The
Russian led 0-2, but Justine soon caught up with her. In the vital seventh
game the Belgian tennis icon switched gears to a pure offensive game that had
stumped Kuznetsova ready for more pitbull defense tennis on the baseline.
From there the match was Justine's. She served it out with an ace, and more
ultra savy cool points.
Final Score for Justine's third RG title 6-4 6-4 in 96 minutes
