WIMBLEDON 2006 - Take a Bow

Justine's return to Wimbledon was a resounding success. She defeated China's
Meng Yuan (WTA#99) 6-0 6-1, and took a well deserved bow for a shimmering
display of all court grass tennis. The gallant Belgian will play the winner
of the Bychkova versus Nakamura match in the second round.
This match was originally slated for Monday, but due to rain was re-scheduled
for Tuesday. A much clearer day, sunlight, and even light shadows made an
appearance on the lawns of the All England Club. Justine played a delightful
all court grass game that made it virtually impossible to consider that only
three weeks ago she was sliding on red clay, and playing a totally different
type of tennis. There was nothing Meng Yuan could do as the center court
audience marvelled at the beauty, and craft from Justine. The first set
concluded 6-0 in 27 minutes.
The second set was more cavalier Justine, but all credit to Yuan as her
spirited attitude never gave up. The young Chinese player tried a variety of
shots, but the Belgian champion simply came up with a superior reply. The
volleys were on fire as Justine launched forward to win 22 of her 26 net
finishes. The match sadly had to end. Clocking in at 57 minutes Meng Yuan
played a few very nifty points for the appreciative crowd as she held serve,
won a game, and received a hearty applause.
6-0 6-1 in 57 minutes.
