On a jam packed day of action that featured first and second rounds, Justine
defeated Russian Ekaterina Bychkova 6-1 6-2 in 54 mintues during a peaceful
English sunset.
Eastbourne has given Justine a new affection for grass court tennis. On
Wednesday at Court number 2 the flying Belgian continued to show Wimbledon
viewers that there's always room for another love besides clay court tennis.
The first set was all Justine as Bychkova's typical young Eastern European
style of deep hard hitting didn't have much effect. It wasn't the flawless
performance of the opener for Justine as she dropped her serve points on
double faults, nonetheless the Russian could not convert any breakpoints. No
pressure for Justine, and the set was sealed 6-1 in 24 minutes.
One dimensional hard hitting pace without much changes in direction rallies
was the slow downfall of the Bychkova. The predictable pattern was
entrenched, and Justine strolled ahead 4-1 with too much creative answers to
her opponents standard long hitting. The second set was Justine's 6-2 in 31
minutes.
Final score 6-1 6-2 in 54 minutes
The high flying Belgian will have a rest day on Thursday, and be back to play
on Friday against young 19 year old Russian Anna Chakvetadza. This will be
Justine's first seeded opponent. Chakvedtadze is seeded in at 30, but at #34
on the WTA full rankings. This will be their first career meeting.
