Justine chopped down 6 foot teen Czech star Nicole Vaidisova 6-2 6-2 in the
quartefinals today. The Belgian tennis queen revealed the vulnerable aspects
of Vaidisova's big hitting hardcourt game, and made the young Czech fumble on
grass. Justine plays Marion Bartoli in the semi-finals on Friday.
"I am happy with the way I played today. I had a clear plan before the match
and was able to apply the right tactics. I never allowed my opponent to find
the right rhythm. On top of that, my service was a success. This is a real
confidence boost for me. Normally, I need more time to get used to playing on
grass." - Justine
Nicole Vaidisova is a great young player in the Venus Williams and Maria
Sharapova mode of long hard two-handed hitting, and power serves, but against
Justine she was made to look small. The match started out with the world #1
on serve, and the 6x grand slam champion played up to her status as tennis
queen never letting Vaidisova get an opportunity to find her timing to hit
some of the fastest serves on the WTA tour. Justine held her own, utilized
body serves to the Czech, and nifty sliced returns that were aimed low to the
ground. It was 6-2 for Henin in a surprisingly one sided first set with 29
minutes of court time.
Vaidisova found a bit of form in the second set and things went on serve to
2-2, but again Justine found gaps in the Czech's arsenal such as lack of
movement forward, and quickness on the baseline for body shot returns. The
last four games were more vital exercises in concentration, and finishing for
Justine as she held firm to end the match on Vaidisova's service game that
went to five deuces.
Final Score 6-2 6-2 in 57 minutes
