LLEYTON Hewitt has withdrawn from next week's ATP event in Barcelona upon
doctor's advice, an agent for the Australian star said in a release here
Tuesday.
The pull-out comes on the day the ATP revealed that Hewitt plans to take
legal action against the tour after being fined last August for missing a
television interview at a Masters event in Cincinnati.
Hewitt's representative, Tom Ross, said an Australian doctor advised that
Hewitt continue to take several weeks rest.
The 22-year-old won tournament titles last month in Scottsdale and Indian
Wells and played a role in Australia's Davis Cup quarter-final in Sweden
earlier this month.
Ross also said that Hewitt never planned to play in the ATP Masters Series
event in Monte Carlo this week, a no-show that could hurt his chances at
being ranked the year-end number one.
"Lleyton was forced to withdraw from an event that was never included in his
schedule this year," Ross said.
"The ATP automatically enters all top players in Masters Series events,
regardless of their individual intentions."
Hewitt plans to play ATP events in Rome and Hamburg next month leading to the
French Open, which begins in Paris on May 26.
