Hewitt Wins TD Waterhouse Cup and US Open Series, Bovina Wins P
Lleyton Hewitt defeated Luis Horna in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to win the
TD Waterhouse Cup. With the victory, Hewitt edged past Andy Roddick in the
points lead to capture the inaugural US Open Series.
On the women's side, Elena Bovina was able to overcome both Natalie Dechy
and the sweltering heat in New Haven, Conn. to take the 2004 Pilot Pen
championship.
Bovina finished up a strong week of tennis with a three-set victory
over Dechy. The win earned Bovina 50 points in the US Open Series Bonus
Challenge Standings, landing her in the fourth spot. Lindsay Davenport,
Amelie Mauresmo and Elena Likhovtseva still hold on to the top three slots.
