The 24 year old, who became the youngest ever World Number One, at the tender age of 16, will be joined on court by former Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna, former British number one and GMTV star Andrew Castle and John McEnroe’s legendary doubles partner, Peter Fleming for a star studded match up that is not to be missed. The exhibition match will be staged on one of the championship’s outside courts after 4pm. Tennis fans will be able to watch the Legends for the cost of a ground pass - just £5 per person (to book tickets please call 01323 412000). Championship’s Director Gavin Fletcher commented: “We are delighted to be able to announce such a strong Legends line up for what has become one of the highlights of the Eastbourne week. Having such an array of talent on show is a real compliment to the championships and we are really looking forward to a spectacular evening of tennis.” “Ticket sales are going incredibly well and I would urge anyone who is planning to visit Devonshire Park this summer to get their tickets sooner rather than later so as not to miss out on another summer of first class tennis action.” Martina Hingis joined the Professional ranks in 1996 and immediately made a huge impact on women’s tennis. A fourteen time grand slam champion, winning five singles and nine doubles titles, she became in 1997 the youngest female world number one. She was one of only 17 players since 1970 to win five or more tournaments in one year and racked up a career total of 40 singles and 36 doubles titles. She also became the youngest Grand Slam singles champion, aged just 16, by winning the 1997 Australian Open. Andrew Castle became a professional tennis player in 1986 after completing an MBA as part of an Athletics Scholarship in America. He was British number one for seven years and was a member of the GB Olympic team in both Seoul (1988) and Barcelona (1992) as well as being a key member of the British teams for the Davis and European Cups throughout the '90's. He is now one of breakfast TV's most familiar faces as an integral member of the GMTV presenting team, covering both news and features. Jana Novotna, of the Czech Republic, finally captured the women's singles championship at Wimbledon in 1998 after reaching the final in both 1993 and 1997. In a career spanning twelve years, Novotna won 24 singles titles and 76 doubles titles, reaching a career high singles ranking as World Number Two in 1997. She was ranked in the World Top ten seven times between 1991 and 1998. Her doubles career took her to number one eleven times, earning five WTA Doubles Team of the Year honours and an International Tennis Federation Doubles Team of the Year honour. Peter Fleming and his doubles partner, John McEnroe, dominated the doubles scene throughout the 80s. The American duo won 57 doubles titles together, including four Wimbledon crowns (1979, 1981, 1983 and 1984), and three US Open titles (1979, 1981 and 1983). Peter also played on three American winning Davis Cup teams and coached Laurence Tieleman, the Italian Davis Cup player.
