Primoz Brezec Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension

The Bobcats have signed Primoz Brezec to a multi-year contract
extension. The 7-1, 255-pound center was chosen by Charlotte in
the Expansion Selection on June 22 after playing his first three
NBA seasons in Indiana. He participated in the Rocky Mountain Revue
summer league with the Bobcats entry and averaged 14.5 points,
6.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots and shot .515 from the field,
ranking in the top 10 in all those categories and helping the team
to a 5-2 record.
"We were very happy when we had the opportunity to take Primoz in
the Expansion Selection and we're delighted to be able to keep
him on our roster for the next several years," said Bickerstaff.
"Primoz played extremely well in the summer league for us, where
he demonstrated his intensity, work ethic and versatility on both
ends of the court. We think he will be an important part of our
foundation as we begin building our team next week."
Brezec averaged 1.8 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.5 minutes in 62
career games with the Pacers, including 1.6 points and 0.8 rebounds
in 2003-04. A native of Slovenia, he was a member of his country's
22-and-under national team in 1999 and played four seasons for
Olimpija Ljubljana. Brezec was originally the 27th overall pick
by Indiana in the 2000 NBA Draft.
Heading into his fourth NBA season under his original rookie-scale
contract, Brezec and the team took advantage of an exclusive
negotiating opportunity to extend his contract. The parties had
until October 31 to enter into an extension so Brezec would not
become a restricted free agent following the 2004-05 season.
The Bobcats are the NBA's 30th franchise and begin their first-ever
training camp with Media Day on Monday, October 4. The first practice
session is on Tuesday, October 5. Charlotte tips off its inaugural
regular season at home against Washington on Thursday, November 4.
The Bobcats will play the 2004-05 season at the Charlotte Coliseum
before moving to Charlotte's New Uptown Arena beginning with the
2005-06 NBA season.
