[外電]K. Rush看來真的要加入山貓了
LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Laker Kareem Rush could be a Charlotte Bobcat by the e
nd of business today.
While not confirming Rush is his target, Bobcats coach-general manager Bernie Bi
ckerstaff said Sunday afternoon he waived Eddie House to open a roster spot for
another player. The Observer reported Sunday the Bobcats and Lakers were discuss
ing a trade, exchanging Rush, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, for second-round picks.
"We have something pending that could come to fruition" today, Bickerstaff said.
Rush excelled during the playoffs last season, hitting 6-of-6 3-point attempts i
n a series-clinching victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He's been troub
led by a sore tendon in his right ankle this season, and hasn't played much behi
nd starting wing players Kobe Bryant and Caron Butler.
Rush indicated at Lakers practice Sunday he'd welcome a trade to the Bobcats.
"It's a good situation for me. I'm not playing too much here right now. I look f
orward to showing what I can do and playing heavy minutes," Rush told Lakers bea
t writers.
Los Angeles declined to pick up his $1.8 million option next season, so Rush wil
l be an unrestricted free agent in July.
"I wasn't performing out here, so change might be better for me," Rush said.
He's averaging 6.5 minutes and less than a point a game, but he's five inches ta
ller than House and at 24, he's two years younger.
That's the profile Bickerstaff has constantly prescribed for this expansion team
-- young, tall and athletic. House performed well this season, averaging 11.1 p
oints, but Bickerstaff said his limitations, as an undersized shooting guard, we
re a factor in the decision.
"The problem is we cannot play Eddie and Brevin (Knight, a 5-11 point guard) tog
ether, and Brevin has got to be on the floor," Bickerstaff said. "If I had a gre
at basketball team, Eddie would be a perfect guy to come off the bench. But we'r
e not worried about the immediate right now. We're worried about building a core
for the future."
Bickerstaff said he addressed the issue Friday with House, giving him the option
of staying or being waived.
"I told Eddie his minutes would diminish. I gave him that choice, and told him h
e might have to go on the injured list," Bickerstaff said. "He's a professional
and he did a tremendous job for us. But I gave him an option, and he said, `I de
finitely don't want to go on the injured list.' "
House's agent, Mark Bartelstein, expressed frustration late Saturday when asked
about the move.
"I thought he was playing the best ball of his career," Bartelstein said of Hous
e. "But I think he'll be with another club really soon."
The Bobcats didn't waive House until late Saturday, after they beat the New York
Knicks at home. Bickerstaff said he wanted to exhaust every effort at trading H
ouse, who makes $825,000 this season.
Both Denver newspapers reported Sunday that the Nuggets are interested in House.
Denver was also interested in Rush, but apparently the Bobcats' offer is more a
ttractive, in part because they figure to have a worse record, and thus a better
second-round pick.
Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe told the Rocky Mountain News it's unlike
ly he'd claim House off waivers, although Denver might sign him if no other NBA
team claims him.
