Physicals hold up Radmanovic's debut

MIAMI -- The Charlotte Bobcats won't see until at least Monday what they got
in Vladimir Radmanovic.
The Serbian forward was not eligible to play against the Miami Heat on
Sunday, one day after Charlotte acquired him for the former first-round draft
pick Adam Morrison and reserve guard Shannon Brown.
Radmanovic was in Miami and hoping to play, but the Lakers did not get
physicals for Morrison and Brown done, so the deal couldn't be officially
complete.
He could play Monday when the Bobcats host the Los Angeles Clippers -- and
when he does make his debut, he'll be the 23rd player to wear a Charlotte
uniform this season.
"I just hope it works out for everybody," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said
before Sunday's game.
Morrison -- the No. 3 pick out of Gonzaga in the 2006 draft, which made him
Michael Jordan's first selection with the Bobcats -- and Brown were enough to
convince the Lakers to trade the 6-foot-10 Radmanovic, who averaged 5.9
points and 2.8 rebounds in nearly 17 minutes per game with Los Angeles.
Morrison was only averaging 2.6 points in his final 11 games with Charlotte,
and it was clear that he simply wasn't going to emerge as a valued member of
the Bobcats' rotation.
Even after the team dealt with a dizzying array of injuries this season --
Charlotte has used more players, by far, than any other NBA team -- Morrison
still was spending the majority of his time languishing on the bench.
"Adam needed to kind of have a new chance and he hadn't been playing a lot
here," Larry Brown said. "Hopefully it will give him an opportunity."
Radmanovic was being checked by team doctors in Charlotte's locker room two
hours before Sunday's game, and the team even added him to the active list,
just in case he was cleared before tip-off.
He would have likely come in handy.
The Bobcats are missing two starters, with Gerald Wallace (rib, lung) and
Raja Bell (groin strain) both expected to remain out of action until after
the All-Star break. Charlotte also just got rookie point guard D.J. Augustin
back after missing nearly a month with injury.
"I think before Gerald and D.J. got hurt we were making unbelievable
progress," Brown said. "But I think after the All-Star break, everything will
sort out and I believe we'll go in the right direction."
